PREVENGE [United Kingdom / 88 minutes / 2016 / Original English version]
Grieving single mother-to-be, Ruth spends her downtime in a hotel room watching black and white horror movies featuring women as horrific goddess figures. Her unborn child, not content to just gestate in silence, commands her to go on a killing spree. Ruth in turn becomes an avenging femme fatale, targeting the people she blames for her partner’s death, and marking her kills in a baby book.
Having conceived of the film while pregnant and unable to find work, writer, director and star Alice Lowe (Sightseers, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace) offers us a unique and fiercely funny blood-filled take on the violence and horrors of pregnancy, cleverly subverting the archetype of the pregnant woman.
