18 August 2017, 19:00 - 23:30
DeuXX is a brand new monthly screening series based in Montreal, championing women in film by presenting works by female filmmakers.
Screenings will consist of single or double bills of fun, fierce films, taking place in the fantastic artist-run gallery Eastern Bloc, located in the heart of the Mile-Ex. Come for the female gaze, stay for the drinks and the bean bag chairs!
For this event, we've called upon Céline Gobert, film critic and co-author of "Le cinéma québécois au féminin" (recently published at L'instant même) as guest curator. She selected for the occasion works by "two figureheads of bold, Québécois, female-driven cinema", Elza Kephart and Izabel Grondin. Elza Kephart and producer Patricia Gomez Zlatar will be in attendance and joining us for a Q&A after the screening!
[ Izabel Grondin / Québec / 14 minutes / 2013 / Original French version with English subtitles]
She explores alternative and instinctual feminine sexuality head-on and without pretence in order to deftly reveal the insipidness and hypocrisy of the standard erotic depiction of female desire.
GRAVEYARD ALIVE: A ZOMBIE NURSE IN LOVE
[Elza Kephart / Québec / 80 minutes / 2003 / Original English version]
With its soap-style zombie comedy and numerous references to B movies from the '60s, Kephart sexualizes the living dead.
Tickets will be 7$ at the door / Événement Facebook
7PM: Doors open + BBQ in the backyard!
10:15PM: Q&A with Elza Kephart and Patricia Gomez Zlatar
Not to mention that Céline's book, "Le cinéma québécois au féminin" will be available for sale by our friends from L'Euguélionne, librairie féministe right before the screening.
