“La Trahison des images:” Science Fictions and Bodies Without Organs in the Event Horizon of Ubiquitous Mediation
21 May 2014, 19:00 - 20:00
- Beth Coleman
In this talk, Coleman looks at the event of living with media technologies and deep modes of mediation in the everyday experience of ubiquitous computing, wearable technology, and smart objects.
She suggests that these are the science fictions one creates on a daily basis ––amalgamations of P.K. Dick and Deleuzian wet dreams or nightmares. Coleman looks at the symptoms of the military-industrial-complex speculative futurisms and the complexity of one’s experience as subject, agent, and citizen on the ground. Warning: art takes a stand in this talk.
Keynote presented in partnership with Media@McGill.
