In the Disco Robots workshop, artists and participants will work together to create servo-motor based analog walking robots and transform them into little dancing machines!
You will have the opportunity to design and personalize your own disco-robot avatar. If you’re feeling shy about getting on the dance floor, let your avatar break the ice for you! During the workshop, you will learn to solder a simple electronic circuit with thirteen electronic components. We will then create simple gearbox motors by hacking servomotors. As the motors transmit information to the electronic circuits, they adapt to the rhythm and timing of the dance, rendering the bots’ motors and legs sensitive to the external world. The core of this workshop is ultimately the creation of a body through motor feedback: body shape, weight and size will all determine the movement style and capabilities of your dancing machine.
