Crystalline Domain is a body of installation works where Sexton involves crystallization with custom electronics, creating a tactile link with matter and energy through electro-chemical improvisation. In the studio she grew crystals from salt, sugar, borax, and copper sulfate. These crystal objects and electronic component prototypes are presented with a large-scale audiovisual work revealing her process, embedding sound and presence within matter while zooming into the symmetries that structure it. An intimate view is given of her small gestures allowing rich complexity to emerge from simple circuitry. Also being explored is the relation of "self" to the fractal self-similarity of nature. Between ritual and experiment, her raw post-minimalist approach aims to intensify the present moment, drawing us into contact with the micro-macro cosmos. Sexton wishes to thank the Canada Council for the Arts, Studio XX, and Perte de Signal for their support. Crystalline Domain is presented in the context of the Biennale internationale d'art numérique (BIAN), produced by ACREQ/Elektra.
