Live Coding

17 April - 1 May 2019, 18:00 - 21:00

  • Workshop #1: 17 April 2019, 18:00 - 21:00
  • Workshop #2: 24 April 2019, 18:00 - 21:00
  • Workshop #3: 1 May 2019, 18:00 - 21:00
  • WORKSHOP BY RODRIGO VELASCO

The workshop is full! You can register on the waiting list by writing to lab@easternbloc.ca

Description: Live coding opens audio-visual expressive opportunities with great potential for the creation of synaesthetic experiences through the writing of algorithms on-the-fly. This workshop is focused on visual and sound  improvisation; exploring musical ideas and rhythms through sound patterns in 'TidalCycles', besides we will create glitches and audio-reactive visuals by transforming oscillators and functions through the live coding video synthesizer 'Hydra'.

During this 9 hours we will explore musical-visual ideas, concepts and techniques, learning about live coding communities, approaching algorithms as thoughts, co-improvising and celebrating unexpected interactions.

Prerequisite: Open to all! Participants should bring their own laptops. It is advised to install the text editor 'Atom' with TidalCycles and Hydra packages in advance, any doubts in this regard can be send to yectocsalev@gmail.com

Hydra created by Olivia Jack - Installation with Atom

**The workshop will be given in english and is accessible in spanish.

Day 1 - Repetition and Difference

Exploring the logic processes behind TidalCycles, thinking about difference and repetition, creating diverse patterns and euclidean rhythms, writing complex interactions through functions.

Day 2 - Accidental Harmony

Algorithmic synthesis in SuperCollider, live coding chord progressions and scales in Tidal. We will explore effects and functions within effects.

Day 3 - Video Synthesizer

Delve into Hydra, understanding oscillators and functions encountering the ‘more-than’, we will create meaningful glitches and audio-reactive visuals.
