Marché Cyclart, the annual gathering for discovering and purchasing works inspired by cycling, is back. Once again this year, thirty some-odd artists and artisan-salvagers will unveil their unique creations that will be on display for admiration and sale: inner tube satchels, belts made from tires, gear-chain earrings, paintings, illustrations, etc. With the holiday season approaching, this event provides an ideal occasion for finding original and eco-conscious gifts in a festive and laid back setting.
The program for the evening will feature live performances by two renowned artists: Karim Charlebois-Zariffa, multidisciplinary creator, international conference presenter and winner of several prestigious prizes, and the illustrious sculptor and painter Armand Vaillancourt, whom several have labeled as the ‘father of modern sculpture’. Now in his third year of participation in the event, Vaillancourt is honoured to create a new work around the theme of cycling by breathing new life into salvaged bike parts.
The Marché CyclArt is a benefit for Cyclo Nord-Sud, an organisation that recovers disused bicycles from throughout Quebec in order to ship them to impoverished communities in Southern countries, where they are a significant transportation method and breadwinner, thus combatting poverty.
