SMALL MOVEMENTS - LIVE PERFORMANCE BY ADAM BASANTA
"Small Movements" is a sound performance using tuned microphone feedback, modified amplification techniques, and kinetic elements. Using controlled feedback techniques refined over a series of sound installations between 2014-2016, this performance is a meditation on the instabilities of sound production; the quiet, fragile and delicate phenomena resulting from the intertwining of sonic technologies. The performance was commissioned by Vancouver New Music for the 2016 edition.
Adam Basanta (b. 1985) is a Montreal-based sound artist, composer, and performer of experimental music. His work traverses sound installations, electroacoustic and instrumental composition, site-specific interventions, and laptop performance. Across disciplines and media, he interrogates intersections between conceptual and sensorial dimensions of listening, instabilities of instrumentality, and means with which site and space can be articulated.
QUINTET OF ELECTRONIC SPONGES BY MARTIN MARIER
Martin Marier plays most of his music on an instrument he invented, called "the sponge". Try five of them.
My name is Martin Marier and I am a doctoral student in composition at Université de Montréal. My supervisor is Jean Piché and my research focuses on electroacoustic music and digital musical instruments. More precisely, I aim at establishing a clear and natural link between gesture and sound. You can read more about this in my Master’s thesis and all over my website.
