Founding member and current artistic director, Eliane Ellbogen is embracing a career in law after 10 years managing the centre. We wish her good luck! She will nonetheless  remain close to the centre as a member of the board of directors. 

Since 2007, Eastern Bloc has been at the forefront of digital art dissemination, promotion and production in Quebec and Canada. Hybrid processes and new modes of production are at the core of the centre’s mandate, as is to support the work of emerging artists by providing them with an exchange platform with more established artists, through initiatives of a local and international scale. Eastern Bloc promotes audience participation, technological democratization, and the utilization of urban space via public intervention projects. Innovative in its nature, Eastern Bloc, through emerging artistic and technological practices, continues to advance a critical stance with regards to these many evolutions.

Deadline to apply: July 7th, 2017 

Responsibilities include :

  • Oversee the artistic programming of the centre in collaboration with the programming comittee and ensure proper management of all public programming activities. 
  • Oversee the general co-direction of the centre in conjunction with the Lab Director, including management of material, human and financial resources.
  • Oversee the development of the centre and establish its global vision, strategic orientations, objectives, priorities, partners and action plans.
  • Oversee implementation and follow-up of annual and project budgets.
  • Supervise all funding applications and reports (financial, annual activity report and others).  
  • Oversee artistic, private, and public partnerships as well as fundraising and membership activities.
  • Supervise independent income activities including gallery rentals, exchange of services, membership fees, workshop registrations and event income.
  • Oversee hiring plan, professional training, and employee evluation for employees, interns, and volunteers ; Supervise a team of 3 to 8 employees (including permanent and contractual employees, interns, and volunteers).
  • Supervise the internal and external communications of the centre aimed at members, partners, funders, artists, and the general public.
  • Represent the centre within the artistic milieu and other fields of activity.


The positions’s terms and conditions are :

  • Full time position (28 to 35 hours per week) 
  • Permanent contract
  • Salary : $30 000  to $40 000 on an annual basis (depending on past experience)


The candidate must possess the following skills and qualities :

  • A large interest for curatorial work and digital cultures
  • Excellent ability to manage various projects at once
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Great attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral French and English
  • Great familiarity with the artistic milieu
  • 3 to 5 years experience in a similar professional capacity
  • Post secondary education in a related field
  • Must be bilingual (French and English)
